About
Sedation
At London Road Dental Practice, we offer our nervous adult patients conscious sedation to help reduce the stress and anxiety associated with their necessary dental treatment.
A carefully controlled amount of sedative is delivered through a vein in your arm or hand which will help relax you to a level that you feel comfortable enough to proceed with your treatment.
Sedation is suitable for patients who are highly anxious of dental visits or who have had traumatic dental experiences in the past. It is also helpful for those who gag easily or those who require complex dental treatments.

Your
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Will I feel any pain?
There will be some mild discomfort when the sedative is administered however, this can be reduced with the use of topical anaesthetic on the skin prior to administration.
2. Will I be completely unconscious?
No. Unlike a general anaesthetic, sedation allows you to remain conscious throughout the procedure but your anxiety will be alleviated and you will be in a more relaxed state.
3. Will I remember the treatment?
You will very rarely be able to remember any of the treatment you have undergone.
4. Is it safe?
Conscious sedation is a very safe procedure. The sedative administered is accurately measured before slow administration. You heart rate and oxygen levels are monitored throughout the procedure. However, as you are likely to be at a reduced level of alertness when your treatment is over, we do require that a friend or family member drives you home.
