Teeth Whitening in Chippenham

If you avoid smiling or are embarrassed because your teeth are stained or discoloured, London Road Dental Practice in Chippenham has the solution.

No – it’s not expensive veneers or crowns that will put back the bright white into your smile, but a safe, simple bleaching procedure, customised just for you.

Of course keeping your teeth clean should be part of your daily oral health routine, but foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, wine or blueberries can stain your teeth, smoking turns them brown and age or illness can dull them. Even using a whitening toothpaste, mouthwash and flossing regularly doesn’t always help.

There are, of course, over-the-counter products available for tooth whitening, and even some unqualified therapists who offer a whitening service (illegally, because only a registered dental practice is permitted to do the job). If you trust your teeth to such quackery then you risk permanently damaging your teeth and gums. Burned gums and blistered lips are the least of the consequences of using these unprofessional methods.

At London Road Practice we offer a professional, customised teeth whitening treatment course which you begin at the surgery and complete at home over two or three weeks. The treatment is applied following the guidelines of the British Dental Association.

When you visit us for tooth whitening we will first clean the teeth and check for any dental problems. Once you are clear of any signs of decay or gum disease, and the dentist deems you a suitable candidate for tooth whitening, we take an impression of your teeth and use the moulds to make your whitening trays.

The clear plastic trays fit over your teeth containing a small amount of low-dose bleaching agents. You wear these trays, containing the hydrogen peroxide bleach, for a few hours each day, to allow the whitening to take effect.

It is very important that the trays are designed to fit your mouth perfectly, because the whitening gel can otherwise leak out and irritate your gums, also lessening the bleaching effect.

Your dentist will tailor the length and intensity of the whitening treatment to suit your particular needs.

The “At Home” whitening process, under the supervision of a dentist, using customised trays, has proved highly successful for our patients. After the initial whitening treatment a “touch-up” may be required every six months or so for a few days to keep those pearly whites gleaming.

The whole procedure is safe and painless, and will not damage your teeth. Some sensitivity may occur during the treatment, but this quickly disappears after the whitening process is complete.

Visiting your dentist can certainly give you plenty to smile about. For teeth whitening or any other cosmetic dentistry treatment, contact London Road Dental Practice on telephone 01249 446568 as soon as possible.  We welcome patients from Chippenham and all surrounding areas.
